Under the link to Constituent Services I have included a form where you can submit your views and comments directly to me. I have also included copies of my mid year letter and annual report to residents in the Media and Speeches section.

I have included my Electorate Office contact details, should you or your family require assistance.

I hope you find my web site informative and easy to use and I welcome any comments you would like to make.

ACT to share in $300m local infrastructure fund

Australian Capital Territory will be offered $2m this financial year as part of the Rudd Labor Government’s $300m community infrastructure stimulus package to help local communities respond to the global financial crisis.

Australian Capital Territory will also be eligible to apply on a competitive basis for larger projects seeking a minimum Commonwealth contribution of $2m or more.

This is an initial down-payment on the Australian Government’s plans to meet urgent needs in communities and create long-term infrastructure. Ongoing funding will be delivered in the May 2009 Budget.

We want to projects that stimulate local economies in the short-term; support jobs in local communities; and provide practical community infrastructure for the long-term.

We’re supporting local economies with the Community Infrastructure Program, to help communities through the global financial crisis, which started in the United States and has affected economies across the world.

The Rudd Government is taking early and decisive action – at the local level – through the Community Infrastructure Program.

First sod turned at Gungahlin Business Park

I was very pleased to be invited to turn the first sod the Gungahlin Business park.

I have long pushed for increased office space in Gungahlin, and the beginning of construction at the Gungahlni Business Park is a good step in the right direction.

New Health Co-op for West Belconnen

I am very pleased to advise that my number one priority for the Belconnen area is now on the way to being achieved.

Last year the ACT Government announced that it would provide capital funding for a cooperative health clinic in Charnwood on condition that the clinic attracted matched funding from the Federal Government. I am very pleased that my Federal Labor colleague, the Minister for Health, Nicola Roxon, has now announced that the Federal Government will provide the matched funding, allowing the project to go ahead.

I would like to congratulate my ACT Labor colleagues for their continuing support for this innovative project to provide bulk-billing GP services in West Belconnen and I thank the Federal Health Minister for examining this project and funding it on its merits.

I am glad that my Territory and Federal colleagues could work together to deliver this project. It certainly makes a refreshing change from the actions of the previous Federal Government which failed to support this project and played the blame game instead.

If you’d like more information on this valuable new service, please contact Peter White who is the Secretary of the West Belconnen Health Co-op. Peter is available on 6258 9354.
